Cloud-Based Industrial IoT Design & Management Platform

Web application for designing PLC/controller networks across OPC-UA, MQTT/Sparkplug and Modbus protocols. Visual topology editor, unified cloud controller console, and a tablet app for on-site monitoring.

Industrial facilities — factories, logistics centres, commercial buildings — use dozens to hundreds of PLCs and microcontrollers managing lighting, HVAC, ventilation, process control and safety systems. Designing these networks, configuring controllers and keeping them running required on-site engineers and a collection of vendor-specific tools that didn't interoperate.

The challenge

Designing industrial control systems
still relied on paper and site visits

The client — an industrial systems integrator — was spending significant engineering time on tasks that should be automated: drawing network topology diagrams by hand, configuring each controller through vendor-specific desktop software, and travelling to sites for firmware updates and diagnostics. Commissioning a new site took 3–4 weeks of engineering time that could have been compressed into days.

The brief

Build a cloud-based web application for designing industrial control networks — visual topology editor, multi-protocol controller configuration — and a mobile tablet app for real-time on-site monitoring and management during operations.

Protocols &standards

Supporting the full
IIoT protocol landscape

Modern industrial facilities use multiple communication protocols simultaneously. The platform supports them all from a single interface.
🔌
OPC-UA
The industrial automation standard for machine-to-SCADA and machine-to-MES communication. Supports complex data models, built-in security and statefulness — ideal for real-time process monitoring and control commands.
IEC 62541 · Client/server · Pub/sub
📡
MQTT / Sparkplug B
Lightweight pub/sub protocol for IIoT at scale. Sparkplug B adds a standardised payload and session state management for mission-critical real-time environments. Ideal for large numbers of sensors reporting by exception.
Eclipse Sparkplug B · HiveMQ · TLS
Modbus TCP/RTU
Legacy but ubiquitous — most existing PLCs and sensors still speak Modbus. The platform includes a Modbus gateway layer so legacy devices participate in the unified control network alongside modern IIoT endpoints.
Modbus TCP · Modbus RTU · Legacy bridge
🌐
REST / WebSocket APIs
Cloud integration layer for connecting to ERP, BMS and third-party platforms. Real-time WebSocket streams for dashboard updates. RESTful APIs for integration with enterprise systems.
REST · WebSocket · Webhook
🗺️
Visual Topology Designer
Drag-and-drop web editor for designing the control network: place controllers, define communication links, set protocol per connection, group by zone or building level. Export to as-built documentation automatically.
Web app · SVG topology · Auto-documentation
💻
Unified Controller Console
Configure, program and update all controllers from one cloud interface — regardless of site location. Firmware updates, parameter changes and logic modifications pushed remotely. Full change log and rollback capability.
Remote config · Firmware OTA · Audit log
📱
Tablet App for On-Site Operations
Real-time monitoring dashboard on iPad/Android tablet for site engineers. Live sensor readings, alarm status, manual override controls. Works on-site WiFi with offline capability for areas without connectivity.
iOS · Android · Offline mode
🚨
Alarm &Event Management
Configurable alarm rules per controller and zone. Escalation workflows: on-site tablet alert → engineer phone → supervisor email. Full alarm history with acknowledge and resolution tracking.
Alarm rules · Escalation · History
